Can You Imagine Your Life Without a Coffee?
It’s easy to see why the Keurig machines have become so popular. They are extremely easy to use, easy to clean and make coffee in mere seconds. They come in a variety of makes and models. Our morning coffee routine has been transformed since we purchased our Keurig, and we can’t imagine going back to our old coffee maker. Find out how to use a Keurig machine.
Benefits of Keurig Coffee Machines
The Keurig machine has a large variety of benefits. It’s become extremely popular in homes all over the world because it’s easy to use and easy to clean. It also takes very little time to learn how to use a Keurig. After we used our Keurig one time, we completely understood how this machine works. Some of the most popular benefits of the Keurig include:
Easy to Use
One of the main reasons that Keurig machines are so popular is their ease of use. We don’t need to spend an inordinate amount of time grinding beans, boiling water, preparing your coffee maker or frothing milk in the morning. We can simply pop a coffee pod into the Keurig machine and allow the machine to do the rest of the work for you.
Depending on whether or not we choose to turn the Keurig machine off when we’re not using it, we conceivably don’t even need to wait for the water to heat up. Simply pop a coffee pod into the machine, fill the tank with water and press a button for fresh-brewed coffee.
Fast Coffee for One or More
The second greatest benefit to the Keurig machine is that we can now enjoy fresh coffee for only one person. Before these types of coffee machines, one would have to make an entire pot of coffee – or at least heat up a huge coffee pot to make only one cup of coffee. The Keurig allows everyone to enjoy coffee in the morning.
The machine also makes coffee extremely fast. We no longer need to wait several minutes for a pot to finish brewing before enjoying our coffee. We can simply push the button, and in less than a minute, we can enjoy our coffee.
With most traditional coffee makers, we would need to clean a huge coffee pot after each use. With the Keurig machine, there’s virtually no cleanup at all. The only cleanup we experience in the morning is popping the mug and spoon into the dishwasher after drinking our coffee! Though there are a few times a year that we need to clean the Keurig machine, the cleanup is extremely minimal compared to the cleanup involved in a traditional coffee maker.
We also don’t need to deal with coffee grinds and filters anymore. We can simply pop out the used pod from the machine and throw it in the garbage.
Variety of Features
The Keurig makes an amazing cup of coffee, but it can also do so much more than that. When we’re not interested in coffee, we can just as easily make a cup of tea. We simply pop a tea pod into the Keurig and push the button. When our favorite teas aren’t available in Keurig pods, we can simply pop a teabag into a mug before running water from the Keurig over the teabag.
In fact, it’s easy to use the Keurig for food items that don’t involve coffee or tea too. Anything that we need to add boiling water to, we can simply pop under the Keurig for a fast hot shot of water.
How Does It Work?
The Keurig machine works very similarly to a regular coffee machine. It has a reservoir of water, a pump to pump the water into the cup and a heating element to heat the water. It also has a reservoir for coffee.
The biggest difference between the Keurig and a regular coffee maker is that the Keurig measures out enough water generally for only one cup of coffee. It also is compatible with coffee pods that are specially portioned for only one cup of coffee.
Some Keurig machines are more similar to espresso machines and serve up a shot of espresso instead of a cup of coffee. Some even have attachments that we can use to warm and froth milk.
The setup of a Keurig machine will greatly depend on the make and model of the Keurig machine. We referred to the owner manual for exact instructions. The first time we used the Keurig, we had to go through a bit more setup than we would for each individual use.
How to Use a Keurig Machine: Instructions Step by Step
Remove your Keurig machine from the box and remove any packaging attached to the machine.
Fill the water reservoir with room temperature water.
Sit the water reservoir in the spot designated for it.
Plug in the Keurig machine.
Turn on the Keurig machine.
Use the manual to set up the computer dashboard on your machine (if applicable) and create your settings.
Wait for the water to warm up.
Open up the coffee pod chamber.
Place a coffee pod in the chamber with the label facing up.
Close the chamber (you’ll hear a mechanical click as the machine pierces the coffee pod).
Choose your size of coffee on the digital panel.
Press the start button.
Depending on the make and model of the machine, some users will experience a different process. The fancier the machine the more steps it will take to brew the coffee. Also, machines that include milk frothers and other bells and whistles will have more steps.
There is also a very basic model of Keurig coffee machine that has much simpler instructions. Most users will simply need to pour a cup of water right into the reservoir (as there is no way to remove the reservoir on the basic models), turn on the machine and press start.
Regular Maintenance and Cleaning
It’s important to maintain and clean the Keurig machine on a regular basis. We try to clean ours once a month to ensure that calcium doesn’t build up inside the machine and clog up the delicate workings of the machine. We also contact a professional Keurig specialist whenever something on our machine isn’t up to snuff. The Keurig machine is an investment, so it’s important to keep it running as smoothly as possible.
How much cleanup are we willing to take on? Machines with more bells and whistles require more cleanup. Yet we only need to clean tons of parts when making an espresso drink or frothing milk. We didn’t want major cleanup every day, but we were okay with a minimal amount of cleanup here and there.
How Often do We Drink Coffee?
Winter morning espresso or bracing cold brew on hot summer days? We knew that the machine we ultimately purchased would depend on the number of times that we drink coffee per day in our household. Larger households might need a machine that can handle continual coffee making. There are some Keurig machines that you can use with special Keurig pots, this is perfect for when we are all going to enjoy coffee together or when we are entertaining.
How Involved do We Want Our Coffee Preparation Process to Be?
Sometimes we simply want to push a button and have a quick cup of coffee. Sometimes we want to sit down with a cup of espresso and read the paper. Different machines provide different coffee options. We knew we wanted a machine that could allow us to make that quick cup of coffee.
Finding the right Keurig machine is a detailed process. Keurig machines are extremely person pieces of machinery that can satisfy the coffee needs of practically any individual. It’s not difficult to learn how to use a Keurig machine, but the benefits of this machine are unparalleled.
