You can’t go wrong pricewise buying an electric chainsaw. There is a wide variety of types, models, and features to choose from. Some higher-end electric chainsaws are more powerful and in the upper $250+ range, but as a rule, electric chainsaw models are simple tools, cheap to make, and less expensive than gas-powered ones to buy. There is no maintenance cost or fuel to purchase. Electric chainsaws are, without a doubt, practical and economical purchases.
Limitations
Each type of electric chainsaw has its limitations. A corded electric chainsaw, for instance, requires a power source and appropriate extension cord. It is unlikely a corded chainsaw will be much help in the woods or off-grid areas, unless you have a generator to run it. A cordless electric saw, or gas-powered chainsaw, might be more useful in these situations.

Easy to Use
A major selling point is how easy electric saws are to start and operate, compared to their gas-powered counterparts. Electric chainsaws typically start with the push of a button after they are either plugged in (corded chainsaws) or the lithium-ion battery pack is installed (cordless chainsaws).
Electric chainsaws are lighter weight than gas-powered chainsaws. You don’t need a lot of strength to effectively operate one. The lighter weight also reduces fatigue, which allows you to go longer and get more things done!

Bar Length
The chain attaches and runs along the outside of the bar. The bar is measured from the outer tip of the bar to the base of the bar at the body. Electric chainsaw bars typically range from 10” to 16”. The longer the bar length, the larger diameter cutting you can do. However, you do not want to cut logs, branches, and other brush that is exactly as wide as the bar. The bar should be at least 2” to 3” wider than what you are actually cutting. Essentially, your cuts should be 2” to 3” shallower than your chainsaw’s total cutting depth.
Select a bar length long enough to accomplish your cutting. You will need a longer (16”) bar if you intend to cut trees. For larger timber, get an even longer (18”) bar. A shorter bar will suffice if you are only cutting up limbs to be chipped or for firewood.
Cordless Electric Chainsaw
Cordless battery-powered electric chainsaws are not as powerful as electric models but they are freely mobile, just as maintenance-free, and they get the job done. They also do not need a power source or extension cord that can get tangled, wrapped up, or trip you! They capably cut small branches and limbs.
